Paper and mould for the Crane Museum

It was my pleasure and privilege to deliver a 3D printed mould and deckle along with 8 quires of watermarked paper to the Crane museum of papermaking earlier this month (https://cranemuseum.org/ ). Jenna, the museum curator was thrilled to receive the mould and is looking forward to using it in some forthcoming papermaking demos.

The mould was printed using my Snapmaker (https://www.snapmaker.com/en-US ) using an enlarged version of the excellent files from Brian Queen. I added a watermark to the mould cover and gifted this, along with 8 quires of paper to the museum.

The paper was made using an esparto furnish (drylap pulp from Carriage house https://carriagehousepaper.com/ ), beaten for an hour. I also added in some shredded banknotes from the BEP (https://www.bep.gov/shop ). The esparto made a lovely clear sheet with a very crisp watermark. The paper was soft and easily torn though, with little or no ‘rattle’.
