The Paper Mill

Where sheets are formed

In his book ‘European Hand Papermaking’, Timothy Barrett is quite clear: “The term “papermill” is reserved for large scale enterprises running at least one vat team of three people on a daily basis”. By Barrett’s definition, my ‘paper mill’ is a ‘personal paperworks’, maybe it’s no more that a paper nerd’s man-cave.

There are moulds

Fibres are beaten

Sheets are pulled

Paper is pressed

Wet sheets are restraint dried in a dryer box

Sheets are tub sized and loft dried

sheets can be calendered to finish

I think it’s a paper mill
